What is Conservative States?
An independent, privately run service for following state and federal legislation and writing to legislators, used by individual subscribers, advocacy organizations and their supporters.
Conservative States helps people follow the bills moving through their legislature, understand what those bills do, and tell their legislators where they stand. It is run by Conservative States, LLC, a private company in Franklin, Tennessee.
Three kinds of people use it
- Subscribers are individuals who pay for a subscription to follow their own legislature: every bill in their state (and, on one plan, the U.S. Congress), plain-English analysis of each bill, alerts when the bills they follow move, hearing reminders, and letters to their legislators. They use the website and the iPhone and Android apps.
- Organizations are advocacy groups that use Conservative States as a team. Their staff track bills and take positions, publish action pages and alerts, see their supporters and results, build reports, and can show their bills and action pages on their own websites.
- Supporters are members of the public who sign up, for free, on an organization's action page to write to their legislators about that organization's campaigns.
All three use the same underlying bill data, so a bill's status reads the same whether you see it in the app, on an organization's page or on its website.
What it is not
- Not a government service. Conservative States is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any government agency, legislature, elected official or political party. Bills, votes and hearing schedules are public records; our sources page links to each legislature's official website so you can check any detail against the government's own record.
- Not legal advice. Our summaries, analyses and support, oppose or watch recommendations are our own opinion, written from a conservative perspective with the help of artificial intelligence.
- Not an organization's voice. When an organization publishes an action page or a position on a bill, those words are the organization's, not ours.
