Which legislatures are covered, and where does the information come from?
All 50 state legislatures, the Council of the District of Columbia and the U.S. Congress, with official records received through LegiScan, Congress.gov and Open States.
What is covered
Conservative States covers all 50 state legislatures, the Council of the District of Columbia and the U.S. Congress. Subscriptions are open to residents of every state and the District of Columbia.
A few features are available only in some states for now, such as seeing side by side how a bill would change current law. Where a feature is limited, the app simply does not show it.
Where the information comes from
Bills, bill text, amendments, status, sponsors, committee referrals, hearing schedules and roll call votes are public records that each legislature publishes on its official website. We receive them through services that collect them from those official records:
- LegiScan, a legislative data service covering all 50 state legislatures, the Council of the District of Columbia and the U.S. Congress. LegiScan sends us updates throughout the day as legislatures publish them.
- Congress.gov, the Library of Congress's official site for federal legislation, for congressional committee meetings and hearings.
- Open States and the legislatures' own member directories, for committee memberships and legislators' contact details.
Updates can take a little time to reach us after a legislature publishes them. The legislature's official website is always the authoritative record, so check it before relying on a detail. Our sources page lists the official website of every legislature we cover.
What is our own work
The plain-English summaries and analyses, the support, oppose or watch recommendations and the letter drafts are written by Conservative States with the help of artificial intelligence, from a conservative perspective. They are our opinion, not a statement from any government body, and not legal advice.
Positions and statements on an organization's pages belong to that organization.
Something looks wrong
If a bill's status, a vote or a legislator's details look wrong, email us the state, the bill number or the legislator's name, and what looks wrong. We will check it against the official record.
If this does not solve it, email support@conservativestates.app.
