How are my letters delivered, and how do I connect Gmail or Outlook?
Letters go out from your own Gmail or Outlook, through your mail app, through an office's official contact form, or through Congress's own systems.
Each office is reached the way it accepts mail.
From your own email account (recommended)
Connect a Gmail or Outlook account and your letters are sent from your own address. Legislators receive mail from a real constituent, and a copy lands in your Sent folder.
- Website: Settings, then Email Accounts for Advocacy, then Connect Gmail or Connect Outlook.
- App: Settings, then Sending email, then Add an email account.
You sign in with Google or Microsoft, not with us. We ask only for permission to send email on your behalf. We never read your email and never see your email password. To stop, choose Disconnect.
If the connection expires, Settings shows Reconnect needed and the letter screen asks you to reconnect.
Through your mail app
With no account connected, the app opens the letter in your phone's mail app, or the website opens it in your computer's email program, ready to send. Review it and press send there. Because we cannot see what happens in your mail app, the app asks whether you sent the letter so it can record it.
Through an office's contact form
Some legislators publish no email address and take messages only through a form on their website. For those offices, Conservative States delivers your letter through the form on your behalf, with your name, address and email. The letter screen tells you when this applies, and shows Delivering… and then Delivered.
To members of Congress
Letters to your U.S. Representative and Senators go through the constituent-communication systems run by the House and Senate. These systems ask for a title (such as Mr. or Ms.) and accept an optional phone number so the office can call you back. Add them under Contact Details in Settings on the website, or in your profile in the app, or when the letter screen asks. Congress's systems are being connected office by office. If a letter cannot be delivered this way yet, its status on the bill's letter screen says so, and you can send it from your mail app instead.
