Why does it say I already wrote about this bill?
You can write to each office once at each stage of a bill: once while it is in a committee, and again when it reaches a floor.
You can write once to each office at each stage of a bill:
- Once while the bill is in a committee. If it moves to a second committee, that is a new stage.
- Once when it reaches the floor of a chamber. When it crosses to the other chamber, that is a new stage too.
When you have already written at the bill's current stage, the letter screen says "You have already written about this bill" or "Already sent at this stage", and the bill drops out of Needs your voice until it moves on.
Why
Offices weigh one thoughtful letter from a constituent far more than several on the same question. Repeat letters at the same stage can make every letter from our members look like a form campaign. One letter per stage keeps your voice credible.
When you can write again
As soon as the bill moves to its next stage, such as out of committee to the floor, you can write again, and the bill comes back to Needs your voice if a vote is coming up. Follow the bill and turn on its alerts so you know when it moves.
Sending to more recipients at the same stage
If you left someone out by mistake, you have a few minutes after sending to send the same letter to the others before the stage closes.
