How do people become our supporters?
The ways a person joins your organization as a supporter, and what they agree to when they do.
A supporter is a person who has an account with your organization on Conservative States. Every supporter appears on the Supporters page in the left navigation. People join in a few ways.
Your signup page
Your organization has its own signup page on your organization's web address. It shows your logo and name with the heading Join followed by your organization's name. A person fills in:
- First and last name
- Email address (typed twice)
- A password of at least 8 characters
- Street address, city, state and ZIP code
The page also runs a quick automatic check that the person is not a bot. When they finish, their account is created and they are added to your supporters right away. Their address is used to work out their legislative districts and their legislators.
An action page
When someone clicks the button on one of your action pages, they are asked to sign up or log in before they write to their legislators. The sign-up form is the same one your signup page uses. A person who signs up there is credited to that action page and its campaign, so you can see which pages bring in new supporters.
An action page on your own website
If you put an action page on your website (Settings > Website embeds), visitors sign up or log in inside the embedded page without leaving your site. They become supporters the same way. The writer who covers campaigns, action pages and websites explains how to set up an embed.
People who already have an account
Someone who already has a Conservative States account, such as a subscriber, can log in on your action page or signup page instead of creating a new account. Logging in adds them to your supporters, but it does not sign them up for your alert emails. Only the checkbox on the sign-up form does that.
What a supporter agrees to
The sign-up form has one checkbox: Receive campaign updates and action alerts. It is checked by default, and the person can uncheck it.
- Checked: the supporter is opted in to your alert emails. Their record shows Action Alerts: Granted under Consent status, with the date.
- Unchecked: the supporter still joins and can take action, but your alerts will not go to them.
Every supporter can leave your alerts at any time with the unsubscribe link at the bottom of each alert. See "What happens when a supporter unsubscribes or marks an alert as spam?" for details.
Adding supporters yourself
There is no button on the Supporters page to add a person by hand or to upload a list. See "Can I export or import supporters?"
If this does not solve it, email support@conservativestates.app and tell us your organization's name.
