How do I put an action page or our bill list on our website?
Allow your website in Settings, then copy the code for an action page, your bill list or a single bill, and check that it shows.
You can show an action page, your list of bills, or a single bill inside your own website. Supporters sign up and send their letters right there, without leaving your site.
Everything here is under Settings, reached from the menu under your name, in the Website embeds section. Anyone on your team can open it and copy code. Only an Owner can change the allowed websites or save display defaults.
If your website runs on WordPress, the Conservative States plugin is usually easier. See the article on the WordPress plugin.
Step 1: Allow your website
Browsers only show your embeds on websites you list under Allowed websites.
- Enter the website's address, for example
https://www.exampletaxpayers.org, and click Add. - To allow every subdomain, use
https://*.exampletaxpayers.org. - Click Save. Changes reach your website within about a minute.
You can list up to 10 addresses. Each must start with https://. Page builders such as Elementor, and staging copies of your site, preview on their own address: add that address too, or the preview shows an empty frame.
With no websites listed, embeds only show on your own Conservative States pages.
Step 2: Copy the code
An action page
- Under An action page on your website, choose a published page. (Or click Put on your website on the page's own detail screen, which opens this section with the page chosen.)
- Copy the code under Code for your website and paste it where the page should appear. The frame grows as readers go through the steps.
- If your site does not allow scripts, use the plain frame code instead.
The Preview shows how it will look.
Inside the frame, supporters sign up or sign in right there. Someone already signed in with your organization can choose to continue with that account, which opens a small sign-in window. Supporters can also connect Gmail or Outlook from inside the frame.
Your bill list
Bill list for your website shows the bills you mark Show on website on your tracked bills, with your position, your public statement, where each bill stands and its next hearing. It updates on its own as bills move. Only bills in your organization's state are shown.
Choose what the list shows:
- Positions and Priorities to include (none ticked shows every position),
- an Issue Portfolio (only shared portfolios can be used), or all website bills,
- Order: priority then position, latest action first, or bill number,
- Sessions: this session only, or include earlier sessions, and the most bills shown,
- Layout (List or Cards), Colors (Light, Dark, or Match the reader's device) and Font,
- Show: Position statement, Next hearing, Status, and your logo and name,
- "Take action" opens: the action page in a new tab, or the action page inside the list, so readers sign up and send without leaving your page.
Then copy the code under Code for your website (or the plain frame code). "Details" opens the bill's page in a new tab. For a web developer who wants to build the list in your site's own design, the same bills are available as data at the address shown.
If you also have a connected WordPress site, Use on my WordPress sites saves these choices as the default for its bill lists.
One bill
Under One bill on your website, choose a bill and copy its code to show that bill, with your position and its details, on a page of your site.
Step 3: Check your website
Check your website gives you a small test code. Paste it into a page of an allowed website. If a small card with your organization's name appears, embeds work there.
If the frame is empty
- Make sure the exact address the page is on (including
wwwor not) is under Allowed websites, and that you saved. - Wait a minute after saving.
- For a page builder preview or staging site, add that address too.
- For an action page, make sure the page is published.
If this does not solve it, email support@conservativestates.app and tell us your organization's name.
