How do I create and publish an action page?

Build an action page inside a campaign, check it against the publish list, publish it (Owners only), and archive or delete it when you are done.

An action page is the public page where supporters write to officials. Each one belongs to a campaign. It has a headline and text, a button, a starting letter, and a list of who the letter goes to.

Create the page

  1. Open Campaigns and click the campaign.
  2. In the Action pages list, click New variant.
  3. Fill in the form. It has five parts, in the same order as the page's detail screen:
    • Who supporters write to. Pick one of the campaign's bills, or the No bill option for an issue page. For an issue page, write The ask (one line, shown on the page and used to write the letters) and, if you like, Background for the letters (facts and arguments for the letter writer; never shown on the page). Then set the Recipients. See the article on recipients.
    • The page. Title (names the page in your campaign and in the browser tab), Headline, Body and Button text (the default is "Send Your Message"). On a bill page, the body starts as the bill's position statement.
    • The letter. A starting Subject and Message. Supporters can edit it before sending, or have one written from their own angle.
    • After sending. The thank-you Heading and Message, and an optional follow-up button with its own text and link (for example "Join our mailing list"). Leave them blank for the defaults.
    • Sharing and search. How the page looks in search results and when shared, the text for share buttons, an optional link to share instead of this page, and a social image. See the article on sharing.
  4. Click Create action page.

The Write with AI buttons next to the title, headline and body, and Write subject and message with AI for the letter, draft that text for you. On an issue page they work once you have written the ask, and the body is yours to write.

The page is saved as a draft. Only your team can see it until it is published.

The page's detail screen

After saving you land on the page's detail screen. It shows every part of the page in its own card, each with an Edit button that opens the form at that part. It also shows the page's Results (views, letters and conversion), its Sources, and a Read the letters link once letters arrive. On an issue page it also shows the current round. See the article on rounds.

Publish the page

A draft page shows a checklist under Before you publish or Ready to publish:

  • An issue page must have The ask and at least one recipient (Who supporters write to) before it can be published.
  • A headline, page text and a starting letter are not required, but the page is weaker without them. Each missing item has an Add button.

When it is ready, click Publish. The page goes live, and its campaign goes Live too if this is its first published page. The detail screen then shows the Live link with Copy link, View page, and Put on your website, which opens the embed code for this page in Settings.

Publishing needs approval rights, which today only the Owner has. An Editor can build and save the page; an Owner publishes it. Changing who a published page writes to also needs an Owner.

To take a live page down, click Unpublish. The page is no longer public and returns to a draft.

Archived or deleted

At the bottom of the detail screen is Delete this page, or Archive this page once letters have been sent from it.

  • A page nobody has acted on is deleted for good. Its link stops working.
  • A page supporters have acted on (sent a letter, or signed up through it) is never deleted. It is archived instead: taken offline and hidden from the campaign, alert and embed pickers, with every letter and result kept for your analytics.

To work on an archived page again, open it and click Restore as draft. You can then publish it again.

Deleting a whole campaign follows the same rule: if supporters wrote through it, it is archived instead.

Who can do what

  • Owners: everything, including publishing, unpublishing and changing a live page's recipients.
  • Editors: create, edit, archive and delete pages, and use the AI writing buttons. They cannot publish.
  • Analysts and Viewers: can open pages, results and letters, but cannot change anything.
