What can each team role do?
Staff have one of four roles, Owner, Editor, Analyst or Viewer, and each role includes everything the role below it can do.
Every staff member has one role. Each role includes everything the role below it can do. Give each person the lowest role that lets them do their job.
The four roles
- Owner. Full access. Approves and sends alerts, publishes action pages, manages the team and settings, and creates partner API keys and webhooks.
- Editor. Creates and edits content: campaigns, action pages, Issue Portfolios, supporters and tracked bills. Drafts alerts and submits them for approval. Cannot approve or send alerts, or publish.
- Analyst. Reads everything, comments, mentions teammates and recommends a position on a bill. Uses the AI Analyst. Cannot edit content or send anything.
- Viewer. Read-only access to the organization's campaigns, supporters, bills and analytics.

Things that need approval rights
These actions need a role with approval rights, which today is the Owner:
- Sending an alert to supporters.
- Publishing an action page.
- Showing a bill on your public website, taking it off, or changing the stance or position statement of a bill that is already public.
- Untracking a bill that is shown on your website.
- Connecting a WordPress site.
An Editor can prepare all of this and hand it to an Owner. For alerts, the Editor submits the draft for review and an Owner approves and sends it.
Private items stay private
A private Issue Portfolio, private saved search or private report template is visible only to the person who created it. Owners cannot see another person's private items either.
When a role changes
Sensitive actions, such as sending, publishing and changing settings, check the person's current role every time, so a change applies to them right away. Some everyday editing can follow the old role until the person next signs in, which is at most about a day. To take away someone's access, remove them from the team. See the article on managing team members.
