Conservative States

How do I link my staff account to our WordPress site?

Link your own Conservative States account in WordPress so you can track bills, set positions and statements, and work on action pages there, with the same permissions your role gives you.

Once your WordPress site is connected to Conservative States, each person on your team can link their own account in WordPress. Then they can do some of their work from WordPress, as themselves, with exactly the permissions their role gives them on Conservative States.

The site must be connected first, by an Owner. See the article on the WordPress plugin.

Link your account

  1. In WordPress, open the Conservative States menu in the left sidebar. (You need permission to edit pages in WordPress to see it.)
  2. Under Link your Conservative States account, click Link my account.
  3. You are taken to Conservative States. Sign in if asked.
  4. A page titled Link your account to WordPress says the site would like to work as you, and lists what your role lets you do from WordPress.
  5. Click Link my account. You go back to WordPress, which shows "Working as" with your name and role.

Any active member of your team can link their own account. No Owner approval is needed, because you can only do what your role already allows.

What you can do from WordPress

The Conservative States menu has two parts:

  • Bills: find bills, track them, and set the position, priority, public statement (with Write with AI) and Show this bill on your website.
  • Action pages: list them, create a new action page for a tracked bill in a new or existing campaign (with AI help for the title, headline, text and letter), edit, Publish, Take down and Remove.

Pages about an issue rather than a bill, recipients, analytics, supporters and alerts stay on Conservative States. A page created from WordPress follows your organization's defaults for who receives the letters and for the thank-you message; change them on Conservative States.

What each role can do:

  • Owner: everything above, including publishing, putting a bill on your website, and changing a public statement.
  • Editor: track bills, draft positions and statements, and draft action pages. An Owner publishes them.
  • Analyst and Viewer: see your organization's bills and action pages.

Your permissions are checked on Conservative States every time, so a role change applies in WordPress at once. Changes you make are recorded under your name.

Unlinking

  • To unlink yourself, click Unlink my account in the Conservative States menu in WordPress.
  • If you leave the team or your access is removed, your link stops working right away.
  • Disconnecting or reconnecting the site removes every link to it. Each person links again.
  • If WordPress says "Your Conservative States sign-in ended. Link your account again.", click Link my account again. This can happen if the link has not been used for about a month.

Anyone on your team can see who works from each site under Settings → Website embeds → WordPress sites, in the line "Working from WordPress".

If this does not solve it, email support@conservativestates.app and tell us your organization's name.
