How does the Legislators page work?
See every legislator in your state with how often they vote your way, filter and map them, open a legislator's page for votes, contacts and notes, and email a whole committee.
Open Legislators under Administration in the left navigation. The page is headed Legislator intelligence. It lists the legislators in your organization's state and shows, for each one, how often they have voted the way your organization wanted. Everyone on your staff can use it.
Ally, Friendly, Swing, Opponent
Each legislator gets an alignment percentage and one of five labels:
- Ally: voted with you on 75% or more of the bills scored.
- Friendly: 50% to 74%.
- Swing: 35% to 49%. These are the persuadable ones.
- Opponent: under 35%.
- No data: nothing to score yet.
The four cards at the top count how many legislators are in each group, out of the total.
How alignment is worked out
Alignment is worked out fresh each time you open the page, from your organization's own positions:
- It looks at the bills where your organization's position is Support or Oppose: bills on your Tracked Bills list, and bills in your campaigns. Bills with any other position (Amend, Neutral, No position) are not scored.
- For each of those bills it takes the legislator's most recent recorded vote. A Yea on a bill you support, or a Nay on a bill you oppose, counts as with you. The opposite counts as against you.
- Not voting and absent are left out, so they neither help nor hurt.
- If the legislator has no vote on the bill but sponsored it, that counts: sponsoring a bill you support is with you, sponsoring a bill you oppose is against you.
- The percentage is the bills with you, divided by all the bills that could be scored.
So the labels change as you take positions on more bills and as votes are recorded. Committee votes are only counted where the legislature publishes them, and many do not.
Views and filters
Switch between three views:
- List: a table with each legislator's label, alignment percentage, how many of your supporters live in their district, bills sponsored, and key committees. Click a row, or View →, to open the legislator.
- Map: a district map colored by label. Switch between the two chambers above it. Click a district to open its legislator.
- By committee: every committee with its members. Each committee has Email all members (opens a new email with every member's address in BCC) and Copy addresses. Members with no email address on file are named underneath.
Narrow the list with the search box (Search legislator, district, committee…) and Add filter: Chamber, Stance (Ally, Friendly, Swing, Opponent, No data), Committee, and Has supporters in district. The address bar keeps your filters, so you can bookmark a view or send the link to a teammate.
Export brief downloads the current list as a spreadsheet (CSV) with name, district, party, chamber, stance, alignment, supporters in district, bills sponsored, key committees, email, phone and biography link.
A legislator's page
Click a legislator to open their page. At the top:
- Name, party, label and alignment percentage, district and counties.
- Contact links: email, phone, Biography and Website when we have them, and fax. Tap or click to email or call.
- Former member, with the reason and date, for someone no longer in office. They stay on the page because their votes and sponsorships still count.
Then:
- Bills sponsored this session, Your supporters in their district (with how many are highly engaged), and Messages sent via you (letters your supporters sent them through your action pages). If you have Issue Portfolios, there is an alignment card for each one.
- Vote history vs. your stances: each bill you took a position on, with Your stance, Their vote, and a check or cross for whether they matched.
- Your district presence: how many of your supporters live in the district, by county.
- Contact & engagement history: notes your team added, and messages your supporters sent this legislator through your action pages, newest first.
- Team discussion: comments with your teammates. Owners, Editors and Analysts can comment; Viewers can read.
Buttons on the page:
- Add note: record a Note, Meeting, Contact or Endorsement, for example "Receptive to parental rights framing". Anyone on your staff can add one, and it appears in the engagement history.
- Mobilize district: start a new alert to your supporters in this legislator's district. Drafting alerts is covered in the alerts articles.
- Ask AI about this legislator: opens the AI Analyst with a question about their activity. Shown to Owners, Editors and Analysts.
Common questions
Everyone shows No data. Your organization has no tracked or campaign bills marked Support or Oppose that have votes or sponsors yet. Set positions on your tracked bills and check back after votes are recorded.
A legislator's contact details are missing or wrong. We get contact details from official and public sources. Email us with the legislator's name and the correct details and we will look into it.
If this does not solve it, email support@conservativestates.app and tell us your organization's name.
