How do I create a campaign?

Create a campaign for one or more bills or for an issue, then add action pages to it and follow its results on the campaign's page.

A campaign groups the action pages you run toward one goal. It can be about one or more bills (for example a bill and its companion in the other chamber), or about an issue with no bill at all. Supporters never see the campaign itself. They see its action pages.

Open Campaigns under Administration in the left navigation to see every campaign, with its status, bills, actions, conversion and a 7-day trend. You can filter by status and by Issue Portfolio, search by name, bill number or sponsor, and switch between the table view and the card view.

Create a campaign

  1. On the Campaigns page, click New campaign.
  2. Give it a Title. A Description is optional and only your team sees it.
  3. Under Bills, search by bill number, sponsor, title or keyword and click a bill to add it. When a bill has a companion in the other chamber, the companion is added too. You can remove any bill you do not want.
  4. For each bill, choose Support or Oppose. This is the position the campaign's action pages take on that bill.
  5. Once at least one bill is added, you can click Generate title & description with AI to have both written for you. Edit them as you like.
  6. Click Create Campaign.

You can also start from a tracked bill: on the Tracked Bills page, use the bill's Create campaign from this bill button. The new campaign opens with that bill already added.

Issue campaigns

To run a campaign about an issue rather than a bill, leave Bills empty and create the campaign. Its action pages will be issue pages, where you write the ask yourself and choose who supporters write to. See the article on creating and publishing an action page.

Campaign status

A new campaign starts as a Draft. It goes Live on its own the first time one of its action pages is published. After that, the buttons at the top of the campaign's page let you:

  • Pause and Resume it,
  • mark it Complete, or Reopen a completed one,
  • Archive it, or Restore to draft an archived one.

The campaign's page

Click a campaign to open it. The top line shows how many bills and action pages it has, when it launched, who owns it and who last changed it. Below that you will find:

  • Page Views, Actions Taken and New Supporters for the campaign,
  • a Conversion funnel for the last 30 days, showing where visitors drop off,
  • Action pages, listing each page with its views, actions and conversion rate. Drafts read "Draft · not live" and archived pages read "Archived · offline, results kept". The New variant button here adds a new action page to the campaign.
  • Where your actions came from, a district map, and the top districts,
  • Sources, showing which links, share buttons and websites brought visits, signups and letters,
  • Linked bills, with each bill's position, the committee it is in and its latest action.

The buttons at the top of the page:

  • Share copies the link to the campaign's published action page. If nothing is published yet, it tells you to publish a page first.
  • Duplicate makes a new draft campaign called "(copy)" with the same bills, positions and portfolio. Action pages are not copied.
  • Edit lets you change the title, description, bills, positions and the Portfolio the campaign belongs to. Only shared portfolios can be chosen.
  • Delete removes the campaign with its action pages and bill links. If supporters have already written through it, the campaign is archived instead: taken offline and hidden, with every letter and result kept.

Who can do what

  • Owners and Editors can create, edit, duplicate, change the status of and delete campaigns, and create action pages.
  • Publishing an action page needs approval rights, which today only the Owner has.
  • Analysts and Viewers can open every campaign and its results but cannot change anything.
