How do I set our position and priority on a bill, and show it on our website?

Record your organization's position and priority on a tracked bill, and publish it to your public website, including which roles can change what.

Every tracked bill carries your organization's position and priority. You can also choose to show it on your public website. A bill has to be tracked first (see the article on tracking bills).

Position

The positions are:

  • Support
  • Oppose
  • Amend
  • Neutral
  • No position (the starting value for a newly tracked bill)

Set the position in either place:

  • On the bill's page, under Your position, click one of the buttons.
  • On Tracked Bills, click the pencil (Edit) on the bill, pick a Position, and click Save.

In states with companion bills, the position and priority apply to both bills of the pair.

The AI analysis on the bill's page shows Our recommendation (for example "Support this bill" or "Oppose this bill"). That is only a suggestion from the AI. It does not change your position. Only the position you set is used on your website, in reports and in searches.

Priority

The priorities are Priority, High, Normal, Low and No priority. Set it on the Tracked Bills page with the pencil (Edit), or for several bills at once with the checkboxes and Apply. The Tracked Bills list is sorted with your highest priorities first.

Show a bill on your website

Tick Show on your website on the bill's page or in the bill's edit form on Tracked Bills. The bill then appears on your organization's public bill list and embeds, with your position, priority and position statement. Your internal notes are never shown publicly.

Once a bill is on your website, its page shows how many times it was viewed there in the last 30 days, with a link to Analytics.

For how the bill list appears on your site, see the article on your website and embeds.

Publishing, and changing what the public sees, needs a role with approval rights. Today that is the Owner. An Editor can still change the priority and internal notes of a bill that is on the website.

When a bill is on your website and you are not an Owner, its position and statement are locked and you see a note saying only an owner can change them. If a bill's companion is on your website, the pair's position is locked too.

To change someone's role, an Owner uses Team & access in Settings.

If this does not solve it, email support@conservativestates.app and tell us your organization's name.
