Conservative States

What happens when I sign up on an organization's action page?

The sign-up form asks for your name, email, a password and your home address, runs a quick human check, and lets you choose whether to hear from the organization.

When you choose the button on an organization's action page (it often reads Take Action Now), a window opens. If you are not signed in yet, it shows two tabs: I'm new here and I have an account. Above them is a short note explaining that your letter is signed with your name and goes to the officials who represent your address.

A supporter account is free. You do not need a subscription or a payment card to take action on an organization's page.

What the form asks for

  • First Name and Last Name, which sign your letter.
  • Email Address, typed twice under Confirm Email Address so a typo does not lock you out.
  • Password, at least 8 characters. You will use it to sign in again later.
  • Street Address, City, State and ZIP Code. Start typing your street address and choose it from the list; the city, state and ZIP code fill in for you.

Why we need your home address

Your address is how we find your legislative districts and the people who represent you, so your letter reaches the right offices. Legislators' offices also use your address to confirm that a letter comes from a constituent, and many will not read one without it. Please use the address where you live, not a work address or a post office box.

The human check

Before your account is created, the page runs a quick automated check that you are a person and not a bot. Most of the time you do not have to do anything. If you see "Security verification is still loading," wait a moment and choose the button again.

Hearing from the organization

The box Receive campaign updates and action alerts is checked for you. Leave it checked if you want the organization to email you about its campaigns. Uncheck it before you join if you do not. You can take action either way, and every email the organization sends you includes an unsubscribe link.

After you choose Join and continue

Your account is created and you are signed in right away. There is no confirmation email to click first. We look up your districts, which usually takes a few seconds, and the window moves straight on to choosing who receives your letter.

Messages you might see

  • "An account with this email already exists. Please log in instead." You already have a Conservative States account, perhaps from another organization's page. Choose Sign in instead and use that password.
  • "Too many signup attempts. Please try again later." Several sign-ups came from the same place in a short time. Wait an hour and try again.
  • "Bot verification failed. Please try again." The human check did not finish. Reload the page and try once more.

If this does not solve it, contact the organization you signed up with. Their staff can reach us on your behalf.
