Are there limits on how many people I can write to?

You can write to up to 30 recipients in one send, and daily limits protect offices and your account from overload.

A few limits keep letters meaningful to the offices that read them and protect your account from misuse. Most people never reach them.

Up to 30 recipients at a time

One send can go to at most 30 recipients. When a page lists more people than that, such as a large committee plus a group of officials, the first 30 are checked for you and the window says "You can write to up to 30 of these at a time." You can change who is checked. If you try to check a 31st, you will see "You can write to up to 30 recipients at a time. Unselect someone first." The Select the first 30 button resets the choice.

Daily and weekly limits

These are the limits as of this writing:

  • 100 letters in 24 hours across your whole account. Past that, you will see a message such as "Daily letter limit reached (100). Try again tomorrow."
  • 3 letters a day to the same legislator.
  • 10 letters a week to the same legislator.

If you reach a limit partway through a send from your connected email account, you will see "You reached your sending limit; the remaining emails were not sent." The letters that already went out still count.

Drafts written for you

You can ask for a limited number of new drafts on the same page within an hour. If you see "Too many drafts for now. Edit the letter yourself, or try again later," edit the letter yourself or come back later.

One letter per office per stage

Separate from these limits, you can write to each office once at each stage of a bill. See the article on why it says you already wrote to an office.
